Ian is a really nice guy who is easy to work with. He’s very patient and makes me feel relaxed during the lesson. I always leave my lesson feeling pumped and ready to play guitar! His rate is very competitive especially for the talent and knowledge that he shares so expertly. I would highly recommend.

“Ian has a great way of explaining the magic of guitar!! He is very patient (needs to be with me!) and is very good at understanding what you feel you would like to accomplish in playing guitar. His rates are very reasonable and the lessons themselves are very informative and fun by combining music theory and playing. He is very knowledgable and i would recommend him to anyone wanting to learn the guitar.”

“Ian is a great guitar tutor to my two sons. They have different skills but he caters for both. He makes the lessons interesting and fun, and they have a great relationship with him and always enjoy going. They have been working with Ian for more than two years and have both progressed really well with him.”

“Ian Mayes is a talented guitarist, arranger and teacher. He incorporates a wide range of influences into his playing and has developed high level of technical skill along with a satisfyingly individual voice. His work with other musicians is always tasteful, both as a lead and rhythm player and his arranging skills are exemplary. As a teacher, Ian inspires students with his infectious enthusiasm and wide range of teaching tools and is able to get the best out of anyone who wants to develop their skills as a guitarist or bassist.”

Don’t think twice, book your lesson now! Having played the same few chords for decades I thought I would take the plunge and I am so glad I have 18 months on. I have learnt so much technique but much more than that, a deeper understanding and appreciation of music. Ian complements his teaching with all the tools of a modern musician such as apps, transcribe software, streaming, youtube as well as books etc, both in the lesson and as “homework”. He is realistic and has helped me set my own goals that work in a pretty busy life. He is very flexible and understanding when I have had to cancel at short notice. He is a talented teacher, so go for it!

Ian has a laid-back teaching style and a deep understanding of music theory. His lessons are easy to follow, with great practice tips and lesson notes. I’ve been playing for many years, but I’ve learned a huge amount in a short time & my playing has really improved. Thanks Ian!

My son has been having lessons with Ian for about 2 years and has come on amazingly. Ian is very patient and relaxed, mixing learning music theory and songs that my son showed in an interest in. Highly recommended.
