Blues Guitar lessons

I think Blues guitar is without doubt the most important style of guitar to learn. Many of the best guitarists in the world have started out as blues guitarists, including Slash, Eric Clapton, Jimmy Page and Keith Richards just to name a few.

If you are looking to learn the blues then expect to work on ‘The 12 Bar Blues’, ‘The Pentatonic Scales’, learning music by ear and theory based around dominant seven chords.

You can also expect to study musicians such as Eric Clapton, B.B King, Albert King, Elmore James, Howlin Wolf, Robert Johnson, Robben Ford and a wide range of bands, both American and English.

What you may be more surprised to hear is that you will also be studying bands like ‘The Beatles’, ‘The Rolling Stones’, ‘Amy Winehouse’ and many other pop bands. Songs such as ‘Can’t buy me love’ and ‘Day tripper’ are based around a 12 bar blues, and songs such as ‘Let it be’ feature bluesy solos focused around the major pentatonic scale.

If you have Spotify, look up a ’12 bar blues playlist’. If not, try searching for 12 bar blues songs online. You will be amazed at how many songs are based around a 12 bar blues that do not sound like the blues at all!
